Monday, October 17: “Crazy Hair & Crazy Sock Day”
Have your student wear the craziest socks they can find and do their hair however they want (or even better don’t do it at all)

  • Morning: BYU/COSMO Assembly
  • Lunchtime: Macey’s Grocery will be handing out candy and coupons (Macey’s mascot the moose will be there at lunch as well!) on the playground 
  • During the Day: Please decorate your classroom door with “student pledges to be drug and bully free”. Be as creative as you want! The best decorated door will win Halloween Cookies on Wednesday
Tuesday, October 18: “Red vs. Purple Day”
Boys wear Red and Girls wear Purple! You don’t want to miss out on this day! Prizes and Contests
held throughout the day!

  • Lunchtime: Student Athletes & Student Leaders from MVHS join us for all the fun activities on the playground: Tug of War, Soda Toss, Dodge Ball, Red Ribbon Week Tattoo’s, Donut Eating Contest, Cotton Candy to be handed out to those wearing red & purple.
Wednesday, October 19: “Superhero Day”. 
Dress up like your favorite Superhero! A superhero can be many different things from Superman to a Firefighter we hope to see it all!

  • Morning: Bobby Lawrence Karate Assembly assembly. Winners of Essay Contest,Coloring Contest and Door Decorating Contest Announced.
  • Lunchtime: Police and Fire Department in Parking lot. Students will have the opportunity toshake hands with some true local heroes!

After School Programs at OES


Tumbling Rolls, cartwheels, aerials, walk overs, front/backhand springs, tucks.  Learn the basics to tumbling or advance from the skill level you currently have!
W 2:15-3:20 and 3:30-4:35    All GRADES MAY ENROLL 

Lego League taught by Julie Reid is better than ever!  (Because we have more supplies than ever!)  During our version of this international program, you’ll be building the robots and programming their movements on the computer and inventing machines of your own. 
TH 3:30-4:35 SORRY, LEGO LEAGUE IS FULL.

Art/Crafts  Come get creative in this class, everyone is an artist! 
T 3:30-4:35  ALL GRADES MAY ENROLL

Yoga & Relaxation Come learn some great ways to calm and relax your body.  Yes, even elementary school children get stressed out. 
M 1:25-2:30 ALL GRADES MAY ENROLL

ASL taught by UVU school of studies for the deaf.  How cool would it be to learn a new language?  Learn fluent sign language!
T 3:30-4:35 ALL GRADES MAY ENROLL

Zumba Get excited for this exercise class with motivating music and fun moves!
TH 3:30-4:35 ALL GRADES MAY ENROLL

Sports Team  taught by Mr. Herrmann and Mr. Hodson, need I say more?  Enjoy a variety of sports taught in this class. 
TH 3:30-4:35  SPACE FOR 15 MORE 4th -6th graders.

Dance/Island Style  taught by Siona Tejada.  Come hula! Polynesian and Tahitian                                           
W 3:30-4:35 ALL GRADES MAY ENROLL
Orchestra/Strings taught by Heather Schramm.  She served as concert Mistress of the Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, and toured the North-Eastern United States with the group. She now attends Brigham Young University, studying Music Education. Heather is currently a member of the BYU Symphony Orchestra.

Karate Come and Kick it up this year with an exciting new teacher, Emery Calkins.

Serious OES crew, we had a record breaking carnival! We had the best $$$ numbers ever, we did better  - measurably better than any carnival in OES history and all because OES IS THE BEST!!!

And let's shout out a BIG CONGRATS to Mrs. Walker's Class who won the Friday Basket Auction Drive- WAY TO GO!! We have your special ticket for a free Cotton Candy & Snow Cone that we'll get to you on Monday. Thanks to everyone for getting all those great donations in on Friday- we really appreciate it!

We will be pre selling tickets on Monday morning at 8 AM and 9:15 AM and we will also have a ticket booth at carnival where you can purchase your meals and game punch cards.

SUMMER ACTIVITIES TO KEEP YOUR BRAIN IN GEAR!


OES Summer Math Challenge:
You have worked hard to learn math this year. To forget it all during the summer would be a bummer!
           
Spend 10 - 20 minutes doing a math activity for a total of 20 days and have your parents initial or sign it off on this sheet.  When school starts in August, bring this sheet to your teacher.  Your teacher will love you, you will be glad you don't have to relearn everything and the PTA will give you a small treat for all your hard work.

Barnes and Noble Summer Reading Journal:
The Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program is here to help you on your way, encouraging you to read books of your own choosing and earn a FREE book, simply by following these three easy steps:
1. Read any eight books this summer and record them in this Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Imagination’s Destination Journal. Be sure to let us know to whom you would recommend each book, and why.
2. Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 24th and September 6th, 2011.
3. Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.

Utah State Fair Read and Win:

Winning is very simple:
  • Open to children who are between the ages of 6-12 as of September 1, 2011
  • Books may be read from April 1 to July 21, 2011
  • Children read ten books and fill out the Reading Record Form
  • Reading is verified by a teacher, parent, guardian, or librarian
  • Children mail their completed forms to the Fair- Entries must be postmarked on or before Thursday, July 21, 2011- No late entries will be accepted
All children who return their completed forms will receive:
  • Gate entry pass to the 2010 Utah State Fair, this individual ticket can be used any one day of the Fair. The Fair runs September 8-18th.
  • Ribbon Bookmark from the International Association of Fairs & Expositions
  • Coupon from Skyline Concessions for a free Regular Drink redeemable at the Fair
  • Coupon from Thomas Carnival for one free ride redeemable at the Fair (limited number available, get your entry in early)

Stadium of Fire Talent Hopefuls perform tonight, May 14. Come support our OES families!!!

YAY!!! Our OES family does it again. Big sister of Jacob Blosil, Jenn Blosil and Mrs. Lancaster's son-in-law and Ashlyn and Gage Hemphill's dad, Artie Hemphill and the Iron Horse Band made it to the final TOP TEN of the Stadium of Fire Talent Contest last night.


 T O N I G H T - come cheer them on as they compete for the TOP 3 to see who will perform at the Stadium of Fire ! 


T O N I G H T - 7 pm (doors open earlier) MVHS in Orem. It's going to be a GREAT show!!!
